Recommendations within the world of PAT Testing were changed in November 2012 on the guidence from Professor Ragnar E Löfstedt and his report on Health & Safety, because of this report the IET have published the new 4th Edition of The Code of Practice (COP) for in-service inspection and testing of electrical equipment book, this book is only a recommendation and is a guide that pat testing companies are using to carry out PAT Testing, the main point to the changes within the COP were to address over compliance of PAT Testing and to reinforce the need for a risk based approach, these changes will not effect any Governing Bodies/Trade/Professional Associations that you are part of as they will have their own recommendations.

There are many common myths about PAT Testing - find out the key facts about the inspection and testing of portable electrical equipment here. Please note that this guide is provided by The Health & Safety Executive (HSE) and does not tell you that, your Building, Employers and Public Liability Insurance may be invalid if you do not carry out PAT Testing.

Over the period of 2000 and 2011 (excluding 2010 for which no breakdown is available), each year faulty appliances and leads were identified as the cause of between 25% and 32% of accidental fires in non dwelling type buildings.
